Impact Of Trade Liberalization On African Countries Essay

The scholarship examining the extent at which trade liberalization (henceforth refers to as economic globalization) impacts poverty levels is limited. This essay examines the relationships between economic globalization and poverty levels in African countries. For instance, a 2006 UNDP report illustrates that just 7.2 percent of Bayelsa and Rivers State (Nigeria) residents were poor in 1980, but in 2004, the poverty index figures rose exponentially to 44.3 percent; Nigeria’s national rural poverty index jumped from 28.3 percent in 1980 to 48 percent in 2000. Also, the 2010 Human Development Report on Nigeria’s Multidimensional Poverty was at 43.25 percent and its population living below $1.25 a day was at 67.98 percent . The reason for this decline, the report noted, must do with the destructive impact of globalization on the local economy in Nigeria. The report avers that more than 70 percent of the residents’ income comes from the informal sector; consisting of farming, fishing, and other related income-generating activities . As Nigeria’s economy, has been fully incorporated into the international economic system, the country’s poverty indexes too seem to have been rising alongside. This seeming relationship between globalization and poverty in Nigeria may run contrary to how economic globalization has been publicized as something beneficial to all. Hardware and Software 2D CAD

Question: Discuss about the Hardware and software for 2D CAD. Answer: The minimum Hardware and software requirements for using 2D CAD depending on the latest version of the applications available are. S.NO ITEM DESCRIPTION 1 PROCESSOR Intel Pentium IV or AMD Athlon 64 2 RAM 1 Giga Byte 3 STORAGE 2 GB 4 OPERATING SYSTEM Windows XP, windows 7 , Vista 32 Bit 5 INPUT AND POINTING DEVICE Standard MS complaint USB Mouse and keyboard 6 DISPLAY 1024x768 VGA display 7 DRIVE Standard CD/DVD reader , burner 24x 8 BROWSER Internet explorer 6.0 Processor These processors have a moderate clock speed (= 1.3GHz).This helps the CAD application to perform, calculate and response faster . The time between the user input command and its performed action in the application is greatly reduced. RAM The RAM provides the temporary storage during the CAD wok. The user is able to work on complex drawings that involves number of features and elements without compromising on the speed. 3. OPERATING SYSTEM. A basic operating system is required for operating a computer. STORAGE A free space of at 500 Mb is required for installation of the CAD application and 1 GB additional for storing CAD generated Data and files. The data such as company formats, standard symbols are stored in it and is required during drafting. The 2D data is also saved on the Hardisk and can be retrieved anytime when required. DISPLAY A larger display helps in better visualization during work, and offers the user a good reach in drawings while drafting. INPUT AND POINTING DEVICES The input devices are essential for entering input commands (dimensions , text, )and operating Graphical user interface. 7.CD/DVD ROM A standard CD/DVD drive with burner. It is required for installing the CAD application and also for creating an External storage CD/DVD of CAD data for back-up. It should have a 48x writing and 24x reading speed. All the hardware except for display should be assembled in a single unit which is good ventilated by cooling fans. Using AUTO CAD has the following advantages: Accuracy. In manual Drafting of Big Components and Assembly , a scale has to be selected for drawing on a selected sheet of paper, Which requires every dimension to be scaled accordingly. In AutoCAD the drafting is done on 1:1 scale depending on any unit the user choose. Redraw/correction/Revision If another copy of the drawing is required with a little change in some dimensions, then in manual work the complete drawing has to be remade. but in electronic CAD any number of copies can be easily made at any instant and any of the dimension can be easily changed. Constraints The CAD package has built in constraints (perpendicular, parallel, tangent) for drafting , thus makes it user during drafting. Flexibility The CAD software automatically detects the midpoint, intersection, corner , centre of circle. Visualization In Electronic CAD it is easy to zoom at certain section, enlarge text and dimensions. It is very easy to make detailed view of section, auxiliary views the user requires.

Software Engineering for Supply Chain Management- myassignmenthelp

Question: Discuss about theSoftware Engineering for Supply Chain Management. Answer: The major advantages of the Agile software development methods over the Waterfall model are as follows: The agile method is best suited for projects where there are frequent chances of making changes whereas, the waterfall model makes it difficult to track back and make frequent changes (Abrahamsson et al, 2017). In Agile methodology, testing can be performed simultaneously alongside the software development phase. Whereas in the waterfall methodology, the testing phase starts only after the whole system has been build. However, risks with the agile approach are that the net costing and delivery timescales of the complete project is unpredictable. In addition, the involvement of end users can figuratively keep adding to the requirements. The main benefits of outsourcing IT services include: Better disaster recovery- 3rd party data centers are better equipped to get the IT services back on their feet in real time, after any security or unavoidable disaster. IT expertise- The outsourced vendors have the necessary technical expertise and sophisticated IT services to decide and maintain the best fit options of IT resource management. The main benefits of outsourcing IT services include: Less control- The data is stored on 3rd part servers. This gives the control over the data. Security- The cloud computing services generally share their resources with other tenants to make the IT scalable. This leads to security concerns. Involving the end user into the software development process may prove to be both advantageous and problematic. Constant communication with the user can help in the better understanding of the requirements however, this may stretch the development time and cost. Supply chain is a system of people, information, resources and organizations, who are involved in the communication of services or products from supplier to customer. Supply chain management is a broader range of activities that are required to plan, control and execute a service or product's flow in the business chain (Stadtler 2015). Radio-Frequency Identification or RFID uses radio waves for reading and capturing information from tags on objects. RFID has brought about a revolution in in SCM. It has replaces the barcode technology to ensure that the right products are handled with no errors or discrepancies in the system. On Miracles by David Hume Essay Example

On Miracles by David Hume Essay David Hume’s essay On Miracles is a strong refutation of supernatural phenomena, often linked to divine intervention. Hume states boldly that even religious events such as miracles should be judged on the basis of empirical evidence. He thus makes evidence the chief determinant of credibility. The credibility of a claimed miracle will increase in proportion to the reliability, method and number of witnesses. Hence Hume dismisses outright any kind of revelatory recounting of miracles. Take say, the example of the resurrection of Christ three days after his death. Though it is an important miracle in Christian theology, it fails the rigorous standards of empiricism that Hume mandates. We only have references to the event in the scriptures, the writing of which happened much later than the event – sometimes centuries later. On top of this, those who witnessed Christ’s resurrection were invariably the faithful, who wished that it were so. Moreover, even if a claimed miracle is attested by numerous witnesses, its veracity becomes dubious if a greater number testify the opposite. A major thrust of Hume’s thesis is that the burden of proof lies heavily upon those claiming miracles. Hume defines a miracle as that event which has defined laws of nature. As a consequence witnesses of miracles are required to bring high credibility to their evidence. But this is easier said than done, as there are inherent mitigating factors. Firstly, since an overwhelming majority of people are religiously inclined and have accepted miracles as acts of God, their psyche would lack the requisite scepticism and objectivity in evaluating a claimed miracle. Second, individuals do not merely perceive events through their senses but through the lens of their cognitive faculties. Our cognitive faculties are trained and cultivated through our education and exposure to various life experiences. Since there is a great deal of variability among humans in this regard, no two individuals would perceive an event in the same way. Since every religion claims its own set of miracles, the devotee to a religion believes in one set to the exclusion of the rest. The same is done by the practitioner of another religion. So, for a neutral observer, every miracle has more disbelievers than believers. This begs the question if there is an element of fanaticism behind these beliefs. In my view, if I have to pick one flaw in the essay, it would be the element of circularity in one of the arguments. Hume recognizes miracles as those events that are exceptions to the natural order. By requiring testimony of huge numbers of people separated in time and place, Hume somewhat pre-empts any potential claims of miracles. This is so because, historically, no miracle had ever been evidenced in such scale, and nor are they likely to happen in the future. Hence Hume’s imposition of enough satisfactory evidence to compensate for the highly exceptional of the miraculous event is a circular argument. On Miracles was published circa 1748. It was a key period in European history, as the hold of religious superstition was giving way to scientific understanding. Hume’s essay is an important contribution to the literature of the Enlightenment. Although there is deficit of terminology in some of Hume’s arguments, they largely remain meritorious. In the two and half centuries since Hume’s essay, philosophical vocabulary is considerably enhanced and can rearticulate Hume’s thesis with greater cogency. Interestingly, while belief in miracles is not as rampant today as it was in the early 18th century, a great portion of humanity still holds such views. Exposure to Hume’s rigorous tour of logic will help move them toward rationality. David Hume’s essay On Miracles is a strong refutation of supernatural phenomena, often linked to divine intervention. The Adams-Onis Treaty Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words

The Adams-Onis Treaty - Research Paper Example A key point to note is that the treaty's signing was conducted in Washington in 1819. Additionally, the ratification by Spain followed in 1820 and consequently enforced in 1821. The treaty renounced the prior claims by the United States regarding Texas. Additionally, the treaty settled the boundary3. The Louisiana Purchase covered the source of the Sabine River, the west and south banks, and the direct link to the north of the Red River4. The Adams-Onion treaty was terminated in 1903 following the introduction of a new treaty in 1902. Some of the key elements in the Adams–Onis Treaty included the idea of the United States acquiring Florida, as well as the idea of establishing a boundary between the territory of the United States and Spain. Notably, the then foremost international debate concentrated in the then American- Spain border. In the larger continent of Europe, Spain encountered serious problems that were internally generated, and the out west colonies almost faced rev olution at that time. Spain realized that its hold on the colonial empire was gradually escaping. Through Jackson’s attack, Spain authorities realized that they were weak when compared to the United States. The relationship between the U.S. and Spain was strained due to suspicions of the United States supporting the struggles for independence amongst the Spanish colonies in American5. Additionally, the phenomenon emerged crucial following the seizing of the Pensacola’s Spanish forts by Gen. Andrew Jackson. In 1818, St. Marks approved raid of Seminoles as he escaped the then slaves that seemed a significant Georgia’s threat. Andrew Jackson approved the execution of two citizens from Britain over the accusations of incitement upon runways and Indians6. There was a serious contemplation by the government of President Monroe towards the denouncing of the actions of Jackson7. However, Adams defended Andrew Jackson as he cited the significance of restraining the India ns as well as escaping slaves. Additionally, Adams sensed that Andrew’s Seminole campaign proves his popularity amongst Americans; this attribute strengthened the diplomatic contribution with Spain. After the 1803’s Louisiana Purchase, the then America’s President Jefferson presented an argument that the region of Florida was incorporated in Louisiana. Consequently, between 1810 and 1812, America annexed some western sections of Florida. President Thomas Jefferson sought more territory when John Quincy Adams served as the State’s Secretary. Between 1817 and 1818, the then US President James Monroe and Adams resumed plans of acquiring Florida as well as a boundary to the west, to be incorporated in the Louisiana Purchase. Following the negotiations that spent a few months, the treaty was signed 18198. Following the spread of the United States in Appalachians, there was an increased need for the Mississippi River to assist in the production of America's Wes t. This section is sometimes known as the section between the Mississippi and Appalachians. The Louisiana territory belonged to Spain since 1762, including 828,000 miles. There was friction between the United States and Spain regarding the right of navigating the Mississippi as well as the right for U.S people to transfer goods to vessels at New Orleans. However, the friction was settled through the Pickney Treaty in 1795. Following the introduction of the

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in the Elderly

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) in the Elderly As a response of two main factors, which are ageing population and exposure to risk factors, the prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is rising worldwide. In fact, the disease is a challenge for public health and health care system because it demands high costs (Lisspers, Johansson, Jansson, Larsson, Stratelis, Hedegaard, Stallberg, 2014). Besides, the American Lung Association (2013) reinforces that the COPD is the third leading cause of death in the United States. Data from 2007 showed that nearly 125,000 deaths nationwide occurred in response this disease, so it represents one COPD death approximately every four minutes. In addition, underlined in these numbers, many clients are not diagnosed or managed correctly, so the process to educate the client and the client knowledge are fundamental to eliminate risk factors and promote better quality of life for whom has been diagnosed with this pulmonary disease (Lisspers, et al., 2014). Throughout the course of th is paper, some information will be described as the following: client’s information, description and clinical manifestation the client’s disease, the client’s prescription, and nursing diagnoses and intervention, which applies to this client. Client’s Information Firstly, fundamental information about the client is necessary to be investigated and understood to proceed the diagnose and manage. Client’s history must provide knowledge to link present manifestations to past situations, and these will conduct to better management and promotion for future interventions. Patient Mrs. S., 82 years old, married, retired, catholic, and level of education restricted (not concluded high school). She was hospitalized as a result of pneumonia after being diagnosed with productive cough, which was with yellow secretion; and her temperature was 38.5oC. In her health history, she related that she was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) although Mrs. S. could not specify the time when these diagnoses occurred. Mrs. S. was not alcoholic and smoking. She has related that at home, she uses medication (not specified) to relieve pain when it is necessary. In addition, she has related that she was not allergic and was responding well front the hospitalization. During her physical examination, she presented as following information: patient was LOC and verbalizing with difficulty because of gas exchange. She was using oxygen therapy by the spectacle-type nasal catheter with 2L/min; RR 32 and tachypnea; HR 81 bpm and normocardic; BP 130/70 mmHg and normotensive; temperature 38,5oC and febrile; and saturation SpO2 90%. Skin: dehydrated, normal colored, turgor characteristic of her age, hematoma in member superior left because of the catheter for serotherapy. In the moment, the catheter was salinized. The nervous reflex was preserved, full and firm pulse, rhythmic. Cranium: it was not present alterations and was hygienic. Pupils were isochoric and photo reactive. Thorax: plan, symmetric, thoracic expansion kept, symmetrical breasts characteristic of senescence. Lung: vesicular murmur and stridor presented in bilateral basis; pulmonary auscultation: normal sounds, regular rhythm in regular rhythm of two. Abdomen: it was plan, palpable in ascend ing loop, Blumberg/Cystic/McBurney negatives. Genito- urinary: paravaginal and perianal presented dermatitis. Eliminations: faeces twice by day with pasty aspect. Urine in grand quantity in diaper, dark yellow and characteristic smell, not related pain to urinate. Alimentation: hyposodic diet, oral, preserved appetite. Water ingest around one liter by day. Activity and sleeping: restrict movements and perambulation with family help difficulty to sleep. Security and protection: Braden’s scale with 16 points – low risk. Comfort: related pain – number six in the right shoulder. Client’s Physiopathology Secondly, understanding the Mrs. S’s history and results of the physical examination can provide an overview about the physiopathology because it must define connections among disease route. These connections are linked to the quality of life to know better about pneumonia and COPD. Pneumonia is an inflammation of the lung parenchyma caused by different microorganism agents (Hinkle Cheever, 2010). In relation to Mrs. S. the according to the drugs prescribed the hypothesis is that the pneumonia is caused by a type of bacteria, which is inhaled by ambient air, where an upper airway bronchoaspiration occurred with colonization this bacteria, so this type of bacteria did a migration to lower airway and colonization in the bilateral inferior lobule region. For instance, some risk factors can be applied for pneumonia. Two age groups at highest risk are infants/children and older people. These risk factors can be a chronic disease, for example, asthma, COPD, and heart disease; suppressed immune system, which can be developed by drug treatment and/or diseases (HIV/AIDS), and surgery; smoking; and client being placed on a ventilator during hospitalization. Still, some signal and symptoms presented because of pneumonia are fever, sweating, hypothermia (in older adults and people with weakened immune system), cough (can be productive or not), chest pain during cough and/or deep breathing, shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle aches, nausea and vomiting (most common for infants/children), and mental awareness (most common for seniors) (Hinkle Cheever, 2010). Another pathology presented in Mrs. S. was Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease is characterized by Lewis, Dirksen, Heitkemper, Bucher Camera (2014) as an airflow limitation, which is not reversible. This airflow limitation is progressive and related to an abnormal inflammatory response of the lungs to noxious particles or gases. COPD is composed of three different pathologic processes, which can possibly combine to develop the clinical case. They are: chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and asthma. The pathophysiology involves gradual destruction of alveolar septum and destruction of the lung parenchyma, which increase the incapacity to provide gas exchange among alveolus and blood. The definitions of the three possible pathology are: a) chronic bronchitis: it describes as an excessive production of mucus in the bronchial tree, and it has chronic productive cough or recurrent during unless three months by year, which is two years consecutive; b) emphysema: it is understood how an anatomic alteration, which is characterized with abnormal alteration in the air spaces distal to the terminal bronchioles, and it is accomplished with destructives alterations in the alveolar walls; c) asthma: it is a chronic inflammatory disease, which is characterized with lower airway hyper responsiveness and variable limitation in the air flux. It can be spontaneously reversible or with treatment. Asthma has clinical manifestation by recurrent episodes of wheezing, breathlessness, chest tightness, and coughing (Hinkle Cheever, 2010). Furthermore, according to Hinkle Cheever (2010) some risk factors are related to COPD can be: first, cigarette smoking, which is considered the major risk factor. Second, occupational chemicals and dusts, which involve two main factors air pollution and infection – air pollution is a problem for urban people although a comparison among cigarette smokers and air pollution, the first has a high level of influence. Thrid, heredity, which is a deficit in the ÃŽ ±1 –Antitrypsin (AAT) deficiency autosomal recessive disorder), but it is only 1% 2% in the United States. Last one, aging: where some degree of emphysema is common in older adults, even non-smokers. Also, some signals and symptoms must be present in the client, who has COPD. These signals and symptoms can be shortness of breath, wheezing, chest tightness, chronic cough, which produces excess mucus, respiratory infection, lack of energy, cyanosis, and weight loss, which must be in the chronic stage. These symptoms and signals must varies person to person, and they can be present on worse stage in some parts of the day. After all, a connection is applied between COPD and pneumonia. Both diseases have a rouge link. First, COPD provides to people, who have this pulmonary disease, a facility to contract pneumonia and difficult to diagnose pneumonia because of similar signals and symptoms. Also, COPD does a difficulty treat pneumonia because the patient has a restriction in his/her immune system, so the antibodies cannot provide the adequate defense. Another situation is inflammation and irritation present in the lungs of COPD, so pneumonia increases these both factors and restricts more the breathing and oxygen exchange. In relation to the diagnoses, if pneumonia is diagnosed early, the recovery can be more satisfactory although COPD restricts it. In fact, management with antibiotics to promote better recovery and care needs to be applied, and prevention must be considered by the client and health professional, so vaccine must be used a method of prevention (Lewis et al, 2014). Client’s Prescription Thirdly, the physician provided prescriptions to the client. Mrs. S’s. physician provided a medical prescription based on her diagnosed (COPD and pneumonia) to provide adequate management and recovery. The physician requested lung X-ray, which showed the presence of opacity in the lower thirds as a result of pneumonia. The medications were: 1- Dipyrone 2ml + 10 ml of distilled water (IV), every 6 hours if pain or fever; 2- Omeprazole 20mg (oral) on an empty stomach, in the morning; 3- Rocephin 1g + 100ml (IV) of saline 0.9%, every 12 hours; 4- Levofloxacin 500mg (IV), every 24 hours; 5- Bamifylline 300 mg (oral), 8 a.m. and p.m; 6- Nebulization therapy with saline 0.9% 5ml + Atrovent 35 drops + Berotec 5 drops (inhalation), every 6 hours; and 8- Oxygen therapy by spectacle-type nasal catheter with 2L/min if saturation ≠¤ 90%. Consequently, some interventions can be understood by this prescription. The medication aspects understand that Mrs. S. was doing management of the presented and the subsequent disease. Medication for pain helps to relieve the discomfort caused by the difficult to breathe and the intercostal muscles, and bronchodilator drugs help to facilitate the air passage, so the air volume in the upper and low airway and gas exchange in the alveolus will increase, and it helps in the chronic disease keeping a bronchodilation the airway (promotion of the health conditions). Antibiotic medication works to eliminate the pathologic agent, which provided pneumonia. The drug referent to proton pump inhibitors is utilized to prevent stomach injuries because of antibiotic therapy (Deglin Vallerand, 2013). Nebulization helps to humidify airway. Oxygen therapy provides a supplement of oxygen to increase the available quantity in the alveolus (Potter Perry, 2009). Likewise, chest x-ray was asked to clarify and provide adequate diagnostic for Mrs. S., and it confirmed what part and the expansion of the lungs had pneumonia (presence of opacity in the lower thirds). Another factor to ask for this exam is because of the COPD, so it helps the physician to evaluate shortness of breath, support the diagnosis, and analyzes for advanced emphysema (Kee, 2010). Furthermore, pharmacology should have attention to Mrs. S. because she had a variety of medications during hospitalization, so nurses must know medication information such as main effect and nursing care for this client. The according with Deglin Vallerand (2013) Mrs. S’ medications are described as follows: Dipyrone 2ml + 10 ml of distilled water (IV), every 6 hours if pain or fever. Main effect: it is an analgesic and antipyretic. Nursing care: Teaching the client about the side effects related to use this medication. Side effects that are more common are allergy and/or breathing discomfort; if it is present, the nurse immediately communicates the physician. This medication must be administrated if the patient refers pain or fever, so the nurse is responsible to verify vital signs and pain scale. Omeprazole 20mg (oral), an empty stomach, in the morning. Main effect: it provides protection for the gastric wall because of the high quantity of medicaments administrated. Nursing care: The nurse asks the patient about allergy. Nurse administrates one hour before breakfast (according to the physician’s prescription). Rocephin 1g + 100ml (IV) of saline 0.9%, every 12 hours. Main effect: it is an antimicrobial to act in gram negatives. Nursing care: Medicament reconstruction must be in saline 0.9%. The administration needs to be slow (minimum 30 minutes). Levofloxacin 500mg (IV), every 24 hours. Main effect: it is an antimicrobial. It is used for the treatment of pneumonia. Nursing care: The nurse must administrate the medication slowly. The nurse should orient the client about side effects such as nauseas and vomiting. The nurse must not administrate other antimicrobial drug in the same time. Bamifylline 300 mg (oral), 8 a.m. and p.m. Main effect: it is a bronchodilator. Nursing care: The nurse should monitor for drug hypersensitivity. The nurse should assess for low bone density and periodically during therapy. Nebulization therapy with saline 0.9% 5ml + Atrovent 35 drops + Berotec 5 drops (inhalation). Main effect: Atrovent acts as a bronchodilator (parasympathetic nervous system), and Berotec acts as a bronchodilator (sympathetic nervous system). Nursing care: Nebulization needs to be done according to the physician’s prescription. The nurse should monitor for side effect such as tachycardia. Nursing Diagnoses and Interventions Finally, Wilkinson Ahern (2009) emphasize that nurses provide their actions using the Nursing Care Systematization, which consists in to analyze the affected client’s conditions and to implement actions to restore his/her normal conditions of daily life. Indeed, Mrs. S’ nursing diagnoses and interventions could be applied, so these actions are described as a follower: Ineffective Breathing Pattern: inspiration and expiration that do not provide adequate ventilation, which is characterized by increased restlessness, oxygen saturation decreased, and using accessory muscles for breathing. Thus, the goal is to provide adequate ventilation pattern. Interventions: Keeping superior airway clear, so it can be done using a suction catheter where necessary. The position of the patient where he/she feels a relieve in dyspnea. The client has a frequent stimulating change of position in bed, keeping elevation in the headboard, and stimulating deep breathing and cough. If necessary, the client can use oxygen therapy, which is conform physician’s prescription. It can be offered by spectacle-type nasal catheter. This catheter must be changed every 24 hours if the presence of secretion. The nurse should monitor humidification the oxygen for oxygen therapy. 2- Ineffective Airway Clearance: client’s inability to clear secretions or obstructions from the respiratory tract to keep a clear airway when it is presented, which is characterized by adventitious breath sounds, changes in the respiratory rate and rhythm, cyanosis, dyspnea, and absent cough. As a result, the goal is to keep or perform a clear airway. a) Interventions: i. Teaching the client how to provide adequate coughing. It can use specific techniques to perform such as tapotement. ii. Encouraging ambulation, so it helps the client to eliminate lung’s secretion and facilitate breathing. iii. Encouraging the client does a deeply breathing, coughing, and teaching him/her the importance to do this. iv. Checking for client’s hydration, it must be adequate because dehydration difficult to breath and eliminate airway secretion. 3- Risk for Infection: it is related to increased environmental and pathogens exposition, invasive procedures, and a deficit in knowledge to avoid pathogen’s exposition. Therefore, the goal is to prevent hospital infection or sepsis. a) Interventions: i. The nurse should monitor and check for local and systemic signs and symptoms of infection. ii. Providing adequate hydric and nutritional ingest. The nurse can stimulate the client to keep adequate alimentary ingest, orient the client and his/her family about the necessity of adequately ingest of fibers, vitamins, proteins, and water. iii. The nurse must teach the client and his/her family about signs and symptoms of infection, so they can go to a health professional, who will evaluate it. The discharge plan and education about health habits must be presented and constructed during the hospitalization with the client and his/her family, so it will provide adequate management and quality of the life for the client (Ackley Ladwig, 2014). In brief, in the following paper was described Mrs. S’s historical and physical examination, her physiopathology, her exams and medicaments, and nursing diagnoses and interventions about COPD and pneumonia once both diseases were presented by Mrs. S. Besides these processes, nurses provide their diagnoses and interventions in the heath plan to care and provide promotion and prevention for the client, who was diagnosed with pulmonary disease. Nurses must continue to implement their nursing diagnoses and interventions with doing research because it is fundamental for the health care system to improve quality of recovery and life for clients and their family.

Pollution Essay: Effects of Global Warming :: Climate Change

An issue that has been stirring up controversy all over the news and in the current presidential debate is global warming. The effects have been seen all over the world and global warming is quickly becoming a major topic of concern. Global warming is the increase of the earth’s temperature. When the earth’s temperature increases, we have a climate change. When this climate change occurs, so do the changes in the sea level, rainfall, wildlife, and this obviously affects humans. (Globalwarming) It is caused by the release of carbon dioxide also known as Co2. Carbon dioxide is released by the use of man made fossil fuels, such as oil, coal and naturals gasses. Co2 traps heat inside the earth’s atmosphere that would usually be in outer space, which causes the Greenhouse Effect. As the earth’s surface heats it becomes too warm to live in and many people, animals and plants will suffer. (EPA) The earth’s temperature naturally changes over the years, but over the last half of century, the record high temperatures drastically increased. Scientists have even warned us that in the last ten years we have had record high temperatures, which means the average temperatures in the United States could increase up to nine degrees. (NDRC) A major result of global warming that I have noticed by living in Florida is that it is making the hurricanes stronger and more treacherous. Every year, Florida gets hit by hurricanes and tropical storms, but during the last five years the damages have really increased. There has been lots of damage done to my home and neighborhood. As a resident of Florida, I have to take more precautions when these storms hit, because I never know how strong they can become. We have had our roof blown off, flood damage and trees falling over in our home. Global warming makes the ocean water warmer, which makes the storms much more powerful. They can easily jump from a category 2 to a category 4 storm. Again, there has been lots of damage done to my home and my neighborhood. (NDRC) Another frightening effect of Global warming is the rising of the sea levels. Scientists have discovered that this could eventually lead to coastal flooding. Areas in the United States that could be heavily affected are all of the eastern sea board, areas of Gulf of Mexico, and almost all of Florida.

Carrefour S.A.

tCarrefour S. A. is a large multinational corporation that aims to issue EUR 750 million worth of debt. Consequently, Carrefour must decide the market in which it wants to place its bonds. The company had historically financed growth using securities denominated in the currency of its business operations. However, Carrefour’s investment banks, Morgan Stanley and UBS-Warburg, recently recommended borrowing in British pounds sterling to take advantage of a borrowing opportunity in that currency. This recommendation seems counter-intuitive prima facie, given that the British coupon rate is higher than those in all the other currencies, particularly the Swiss franc. Nevertheless, there are several reasons why investing in the British pound is a good idea. While the nominal interest rate of the Swiss franc is lower than that of the British pound, the real interest rate of the British pound is lower because of the relatively higher inflation rate in the U. K. Moreover, the exchange r ate for GBP/EUR (. 628) appears more favorable than the exchange rate of CHF/EUR (1. 53). In addition, we can calculate the implied forward rates to further help us with our decision. We can use the formula F (f. c. /EUR) = (1+i(f. c. ))N/(1+i(EUR))N*S(f. c. /EUR) to find the implied 10 year forward rates: The low forward rates for GBP/EUR suggest that borrowing in British pounds is a wise choice. Next, we must use the implied forward rates to calculate the cash flows for each currency (in Euros). This will allow us to compare each currency and see which one has the smallest cash outflow (which is the best option, since we are issuing debt). We do this by finding the coupon payment in each currency and then dividing it by the implied forward rate for the appropriate year. Using this information, we can see that the cash outflow for the GBP is the smallest, which further suggests that borrowing in British pounds is advantageous. Plus, the cash outflow is greatest for the Swiss franc. We can also use a discounted cash flow analysis to guide our decision. We can take the cash flows we just calculated and discount them to the present time using the risk free rate for each respective country and for the appropriate year. These numbers will be even more helpful and accurate because will they be in terms of today’s dollars. See below: Once again, it is evident that the smallest cash outflow corresponds with the British pound. While the coupon rate for the GBP is higher, the exchange rate is more favorable, the real interest rate is actually lower, and the coupons paid are lower. All of these factors lead me to conclude that borrowing in British pounds is in the best interest of Carrefour. One final factor to consider is the markups that brokers typically charge to make money for their services. We can find the markup for each currency by subtracting the risk-free rate from the coupon rate. The markup for the Euro is 5. 25% – 5. 087% = . 163%. The markup fo r the GBP is . 001%. The markup for the CHF is . 126%. The markup for the USD is . 087%. As we can see, the markup for the GBP is significantly lower than those of the other currencies. This suggests that the GBP is less risky and has a lower chance of default than the other currencies. It is also another reason for borrowing in British pounds.

Funny Images Conjured up by Web Comments Funny Images Conjured up by Web Comments Funny Images Conjured up by Web Comments By Maeve Maddox Sometimes Im more amused than annoyed by spelling errors and incorrect word choices that I see in blogs and comments. Here are a few. Let your imagination soar! 1. Looking for a laptop for my mother she only needs a bear-bones laptop. 2. Someone said this to me one time and I balled my eyes out. 3. his scarlet bishops cossack and cap. 4. The boy [who had been beaten] had whelps on him. 5. He hears a disemboweled voice. 6. The cowboy was rounding up the doggies. 7. The crust of my interest is World War I. 1. bare-bones adjective meaning essential. a laptop with only the most essential features. bear-bones the skeletal structure of a bear (an animal of the family Ursidae). 2. balled formed into a ball. We can speak of a balled fist. Yarn can be balled, as can little bits of wool on a sweater. bawled past tense of bawl, to cry out loudly. The word may come from an Icelandic word for the sound cattle make. Related to bellow. 3. Cossack originally a member of a Russian military elite; a distinctive item of their uniform was a tall fur hat. Figuratively, a cossack is an authoritarian figure that uses any type of force to control others. The character Chekov in the original StarTrek series was fond of calling people he didnt like cossacks. A cassock, on the other hand, is a clerical garment, a long close-fitting tunic reaching to the feet. This is what the bishop probably had. 4. A whelp is the young of a carnivorous animal, such as a wolf cub or puppy. The word called for in this context is welt. welt: a raised area, ridge, or seam on the body surface (as from scarring or a blow). 5. disembowel: to take out the bowels of, eviscerate. This is what the word drawn refers to in the expression hanged, drawn, and quartered. The word this writer was reaching for was disembodied. disembodied in this context means that a voice was heard, but its source could not be seen. 6. doggies a childs word for dogs. Ex. Look at the Mother Doggy and all the little doggies! dogy (also spelled dogey and dogie) a motherless calf in a range herd. 7. crust the hardened exterior of something. It could be a pie crust or the earths crust. The speaker probably intended to say crux. crux a word derived from the Latin word for cross. A cross, as we know, can be a tool of torture and execution, but its shape is also suggestive of a central nexus, like a crossroads. Both ideas contribute to the meanings of the English word crux: 1 a. a puzzling, confusing, or difficult problem : an unsolved question b. a determinative point at issue : a pivotal or essential point requiring resolution or resolving an outcome 2. a main or central feature (as of an argument or plan) Please share your own examples of misused words that conjure up funny images.

POPULAR SCIENCE - Article Example It stays this way to protect itself against adverse conditions for long periods of time, in order to wait for a better time period to grow. Through experimental incubation, these spores are revived, which seem to have come from deeper hot spots inside the ocean. These newly discovered bacteria have very similar genetic characteristics to a set of bacteria found from offshore oil reservoirs. Hubert, a PhD in petroleum microbiology states that  that surveys will be able to pinpoint the exact  place from where these microorganisms have originated. He believes they might have some interesting applications, that is, if they are coming from petroleum reservoirs. These bacteria were found to be anaerobic, as they were found in high number in the sediments. Hubert stated that a source of the bacteria could be the oil reservoir and another could be that the fluid circulation through the ocean crust at the spreading ridges where hydrothermal vents are present. While these spores are extremely helpful in tracking down marine hot spots, they also offer new information about the wild life and everything about the different variety of things here in the biosphere. The bacterial species  found  in  the  environment  hide  many  of the minor groups of bacteria that apparently  don’t seem to participate in  the  functioning  of  the  ecosystem. These dormant thermophiles can be a useful key in understanding how diverse is the marine ecosystem and how well it is maintained by the submissive spreading of cells over a large area. These arctic thermophiles can be the holders of great and important clues to solve broader riddle of biogeography and biodiversity.   The thermophiles are a form of bacteria that live and breed in hot places and kill organisms around them (Kristjà ¡nsson; p 43). These are grouped into two types, either Prokaryotes or Eukaryotes.   They breed in temperatures that range between 50C to 70C. Studying these

Business Law - Term Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words - 1

Business Law - - Term Paper Example Joseph buys a Tefal Pan Actifry. The pan catches fire and burns the members of the family. There are three questions, the first question pertains to the moral obligation which the company owes him, the second question pertains to negligence of the product and the third question pertains to the legal contract between Joseph and the product seller. Joseph Price was a purchaser of Tefal Actifry. He contended to the quality and way the product was made, and therefore the company was under a moral and legal obligation to sell him good quality product. However, in the use of the product, it turned out to be a faulty one and therefore under the Sale of Goods Act 1979, the consumer, which in this case is Joseph Price, has a right to avail from the manufacturers of the faulty goods, which in this case is Tefal Actifry. Under the law laid down in Section 48 (b) of the Sale of Goods Act, it is pertinent to note that the law allows the consumer to file for complaints when the goods sold by the seller turns out to be faulty and wrongly made. Acting on behalf of Jospeph as his legal advisor, I would advise him to file a suit against Tefal Actifry and hold them liable under Section 48 (b) in which case they shall be punished by the Court of law. The seller in this case has to replace the goods since the actifry turned out to be non-functional, dangerous, and extremely faulty for the people who use it. Even though the company claims that only 0.4 per cent of the products are faulty, it does not rule out the fact that those who used it and in the case my client Joseph Price, and to those it had turned out to be faulty, the company should incur the damages and replace the faulty product with a better fool proof product. In the case of Bowes v Richardson & Son Ltd, 28 January 2004 the consumer was allowed to reject the faulty car after a period of 7 months. Dave and Sandra (Joseph’s parents) suffered burns and a lung

Ending Poverty in the Third World Essay Example for Free

Ending Poverty in the Third World Essay Poverty continues to be a large part of the third world countries, affecting many people’s wellbeing and country stability in the new millennium, despite many strategies put in place to alleviate the poor status. Due to the continued prominent place of poverty in the third world countries, significant strategies are coming up comprising of political, social, spiritual, environmental, and managerial coping strategies. The strategies have realized various levels of success although it highly depends on the place of implementation and the taskforce mandated to implement the development strategies. The failure or minimal success of some of the strategies geared towards ending poverty in the third world, has encouraged the developed and developing countries, and developmental related agencies to focus on coming up with new theories with the likelihood of more success. Nevertheless, poverty in the third world continues to be a major challenge in the world with many strategies, some successful and others marked with dismal failure coming up to alleviate third world poverty. Description of Poverty in the Third World Poverty implies a lack of adequate food and shelter, lack of better housing, sanitation, access of safe drinking water attributed to lack of income to facilitate acquisition of basic necessities, a sense of powerlessness, and vulnerability to adverse shocks (Parsed et al, 2005, p. 290). The concept of poverty encompasses a large spectrum of attributes such as levels of income and consumption, health, education, security, and housing. Nevertheless, poverty is largely an attribute of low income that prevents individuals and families from acquiring and enjoying basic life necessities such as nutritious food, clothing, shelter, and clean water. Regions highly affected by the incidence of poverty are Africa and Asia, also referred as the third world, the developing nations, or less developed countries, although Africa suffers a more rampant extent of poverty compared to Asia (Parsed et al, 2005, p. 290). Among these countries, the poor live mostly on less than a dollar a day, although some live on $2 a day, although the incidence and gap may not be significant either in the African or Asian developing countries. In the past decade, the development of the concept of globalization gave promise to the reduction of poverty in the third world because of the removal of control on free movement of goods and services; however, the initial hope is yet to be realized. Encouraging the possibility of poverty eradication within the emergence of globalization has been the United Nations and the development of goals towards alleviation of poverty, and the entry of the international community in the process of poverty eradication in the third world. Poverty and the Millennium Development Goals At the turn of the millennium in 2000, the United States member states agreed on eight international development goals to be achieved by 2015 that the countries adopted in 2001 in order to assist impoverished nations and create a sustainable global community. The first goal of the eight was to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, with the target being to half the number of people living on less than a dollar per day and reduce by half the number of people suffering from hunger. From the creation of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), and various public, private, and federal agencies worked towards establishing developmental strategies that would facilitate the realization of the goals (Eggen and Bezemer, 2007, p. 1). The strategies have been constructed mainly along the international community through the UNDP, NGOs funded by international groups, the World Bank, and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) towards poverty reduction. Agreeably, poverty reduction especially in the third world has been an ongoing process in many countries. However, its recognition by the UN made it a priority within the international community with the MDGs becoming a coherent expression of global development priorities and an instrument to shape development policies (Eggen and Bezemer, 2007, p. 2). The introduction of the MDGs meant that the world had a standard by which to measure the success of policy interventions in poverty reduction within a certain period. In the discussion of the strategies set towards ending poverty in the third world, the policy interventions attributed to the MDGs, and the international community forms a critical part of the exploration. Therefore, throughout the paper, reference to the MDGs, the international community, and globalization are inevitable. Strategies towards Ending Poverty in the Third World When considering the interventions being developed towards ending poverty in the third world, one should consider the causes of poverty and their role in determining the responses towards poverty by all key players including inhabitants of third world countries, potential donors, and those from developed countries or economies. Among some of the determined causes of poverty in the third world first is the high and underdeveloped population in the third world attributed to lack of ability among the people, unwillingness to change traditional ways and customs, lack of proper resource management, lack of attempt at self-improvement, laziness, and lack of knowledge (Panadero and Vazquez, 2008, p. 574). The second cause is poor governance in third world countries attributed to corruption and inefficiency among the governments, while the third cause is exploitation of the third world countries by other countries especially developed countries and by the world economy and banking systems, and lack of an open market system. The fourth cause of poverty in the third world according to Panadero and Vasquez (2008) is war whereby the governments spend too much on arms and more is spent in restoring the country after a war or keep the country afloat in the course of the war. Lastly, third world poverty is attributed to natural causes that include diseases, pests and insects that destroy crops, natural disasters because of poor climatic conditions and lack of environmental friendly knowledge. Alleviation and eradication of poverty in the third world will take the effort of the inhabitants of these countries, those from the developed economies and the organizations key to development such as UNDP, World Bank and the IMF. The effort should focus on strategies that will facilitate reduction and eventual eradication of poverty, and ensuring people from the third world gain the knowledge and provisions needed to prevent them from going back to their current status. Agreeably, the eradication of poverty in the third world requires a multidimensional focus that does not only concentrate on reducing income poverty, which has been the focus of many interventions, but also include interventions geared towards reduction of human deprivation in all dimensions (Chopra, 2005, p. 52). To achieve a global reduction of poverty as per the MDGs by 2015, the third world countries comprising the world’s poorest countries need to pursue wide ranges of reforms with developed nations responding to the effort through improved trade terms and increased aid. According to Chopra (2005), action is critical in ensuring global financial stability and ensuring that poor countries are at par with developed nations in the adoption of technology and in scientific and medical research (p. 52). Further, the wealthy nations must open their markets to the products of the poor countries, with aid and debt relief increased to help the poor countries help themselves without the interference of the wealthy nations, which has marked most of the intervention programs. Nevertheless, the poor nations need to give voice to their need and influence decision-making in international forums, noting that in most forums the powerful developed countries make much of the decisions related to the development of the poor nations. Therefore, for the world to end third world poverty and ensure that the global platform allows equal opportunities and competition to all, the international community needs to review existing intervention programs. Among interventions that can aid the process of ending third world poverty that have been part of the implemented strategies, include one promoting equal opportunity through the expansion of economic opportunities for poor people through the stimulation of overall growth (Chopra, 2005, p. 51). Additional strategies towards offering equal opportunity is building up the poor countries assets and increasing the asset returns through market and non-market action. As stated in the discussion of causes of poverty, one of the mentions causes is an underdeveloped population; therefore, offering opportunities for economic expansion will help these populations begin thriving thus facilitate a reduction of poverty. Furthermore, another attributed cause of poverty is a closed market that does not allow the poor nations to promote their products in the developed nations; however, creation of opportunities through the opening of markets will enable them access the international market. Additionally, the promotion of assets especially within the international community is another strategy of providing equal opportunities to the poor nations. Second intervention is facilitating empowerment through adoption of accountability in state institutions and response to the needs of the poor people, as well as strengthening the participation of poor people in political processes and local decision-making (Chopra, 2005, p. 52). Further, empowerment requires people be encouraged to participate in political processes, local decision making, and eradicating social barriers that contribute to gender, ethnic, racial, religious, and social distinction. Dealing with unaccountability in state institutions including governments ensures successful address of some of the cause of poverty, which is corrupt government. Further, strengthening people’s participation in decision-making will provide the link between the people, the leadership, and the resources resulting in better resource usage that has been lacking in many third world countries. The third factor in addressing poverty in the third world is enlargement of security through reduction of people’s vulnerability to ill health, economic shocks, policy induced dislocations, natural disasters, and violence (Chopra, 2005, p. 52). Notably, health is a significant factor in development because when people are healthy they are more likely to engage in economically productive activities compared to when they are ill or undergoing natural circumstances that reduce their efficiency. Security should also include protection from violence, and helping the people deal with adverse shocks when they occur. Maintenance of security is important to offer people an opportunity to work towards developmentally beneficial activities without fear of violence, disease, or natural disasters, and incase such events occur people should know their country has the capacity to address them and restore order. The implementation of some of these factors as discussed in the subsequent section has been ongoing in many parts of the third world realizing a steady decline in poverty. However, the number of the poor continues to be significant denoting a failure in the effective of the strategies, and requiring developmental agencies and developing nations to either adopt different strategies or approach the existing strategies from another side. Nevertheless, one cannot claim that the international community has not been trying to meet the MDGs especially in the third world and some poor parts of the developed nations.

Marketing Essay example -- GCSE Business Marketing BTEC Coursework

Marketing According to the American Heritage Dictionary, marketing is defined is the act or process of buying and selling in a market, but what are some of the strategies that successful corporations use to gain an advantage over their competition? Successful companies invest up front to develop an advertising and promotions plan, which clearly outlines the goals and strategies of the organization. Once the plan is in place and ready to implement, identification of target markets must be determined. Successful companies also pay close attention to the competition and use failures and successes to their advantage. An advertising and promotions plan will include such items as identifying target markets, creating messages to the market and what avenues will be used to communicate the message. The plan should also identify how successes are measured through the use of a quantifiable list that tracks whether or not the tasks are accomplishing the goals. One of the most valuable factors of successful marketing is to know your target market. If Anheuser-Busch, one of the most recognized trademarks in the world, targeted customers under the legal drinking age of 21 years, chances are they would not be a world leader. The most effective way to find out about the targeted market is through basic market research. How will they perceive the offered product or service? The best way to find out what they want is to ask them. Send out surveys and offer incentives f...

The consumers are going for real â€Å"value† for their money ,choosing drinks with better health value. Acurrent ban on sales of carbonates shows in the trend analysis given below:- {draw:frame} COMPANY GROWTH RATE Our company has shown a declining growth rate due to change in value perception and behavioural differences of consumers due to governmental bans all over the country. A public clarification would help us change the consumer perception. We need to make our core value based products to be fresh and relevant. We also need to sharpen our focus in this industry for maximum effect. {draw:frame} The trends of our own product offerings in the market are shown in the graph as below. Here we can notice a declining trend. {draw:frame} This declining trend can also be seen as a loss of our market segment to healthier drink options like fuit juices and water . It is quite evident in the graph given below:- {draw:frame} High sales volume in the water drinking segment and health juice segment shows that customer want better value and there perception is based on the changes in the microenvironment brought about by our competitors. There is a possibility of high â€Å"customer churn† in the future as our company’s sales decline. A 5 percent reduction in the customer defection rate can increase profits by 25 percent to 85 percent. According to the expectancy value model we ned to look into altering the beliefs about our brand which is effected by physical risk perceptions. Here we are seeing intense segment rivalry in our eange of products. Also there is lower entry barrier. The companies point of view needs to be visible on active information search. A customer’s decision to be loyal or defect from buying our products depends upon the large number of small encounters of the company which should lead to memorable customer experience.

We use the SWOT Analysis to analyse Tea Tree Concealer’s Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. Strengths The Body Shop International plc is a part of the L’Orà ©al Corporate group. L’Orà ©al Corporate has a lot of capital, it can support The Body Shop International plc’s finance and it can have some large scale promotional campaign without consider financial problem. Also, the L’Orà ©al Corporate is the largest cosmetics and beauty company in the world. It is famous, so, The Body Shop International plc can use the L’Orà ©al Corporate’s brand name to have some promotion and it will be more effectively. Furthermore, the Body Shop International plc has a positive reputation and image because of their non-animal-testing and fair trading company image. It can attract some customers, who support non-animal-testing and fair trading, to buy the products. For the Tea Tree Concealer part, one of its strengths is that it is a handy portable stick. This is because customers can easily bring it goes out and leave in somewhere easily. After use the Tea Tree Concealer, it will be without over drying the skin and it is good for our skin too. Moreover, the Tea Tree Concealer is made of organic tea tree oil, which is not only an infusion perfect to help blemished skin, but it can also attract customers, who support using organic raw material, to buy it. Weaknesses The Tea Tree Concealer only has one color tone, it is not suitable for every because different people have different skin color. It only has one color tone that it can satisfy a little part of customers but not lots of customers. Without doubt, everyone has different skin, such as dry skin, oily skin, combination skin, normal skin and sensitive skin. The Tea Tree Concealer only has one type and it also cannot satisfy lots of people, only a little part of customers can use it. Also, as we all know, The Body Shop International plc is founded in the UK in 1976 by Dame Anita Roddick. It is a western company and their products might be more suitable for foreign people. Therefore, the Tea Tree Concealer may not be suitable for Asian. It cannot satisfy more people. Opportunities First of all, many existing cosmetics and skin-care products were tested on animals before they promote to the market in order to make sure the usage of them will not harm human bodies. However, The Body Shop against animals testing, every one of the products is animal cruelty free and vegetarian, which means we do not destroy the habitat of the animals and us. As a result, this is an opportunity of us to promote our product with this special characteristic. The second one is that the product have not taken care the men’s market. The skins of men and women are not the same, so do the needs of them. If we still only focus on the women’s market, our sales would only stay in the same level, so we should not only focus on the women’s needs but also the men’s to enlarge the market. As a result, this becomes one of the opportunities for the company to expand the men’s market and to increase sales volume. Third, the Body Shop is supporting Community Fair Trade, for example in Kenya. Most of the products contain Community Trade ingredients. This can attract customers who are also supporting Community Fair Trade. The body shop is also defending human rights, in order to treat all people in a fair and open fashion, to respect and value their integrity. Last, we are seeking and sustaining natural materials, and using planet’s resources wisely. These are the ways how we approach our environmental target, protect our planet. Threats The competition from competitors such as Jurlique’s natural skin tones covering cream who are also at the same level is keen. They are also providing same type of products and which are inexpensive to attract our same target groups. As a result, we have to consider about what are our vantages and extent them to get more awareness. Furthermore, the brand image of The Body Shop has become old, and is it not that attractive to the new young customers. So there is a need for The Body Shop to rebuild the image into fashion and vitality. ————————————————- Marketing Objectives Our marketing objective has two parts, one is short term and other one is long term. We will explain as follow. Short Term Based on the SWOT analysis of Tea Tree Concealer, it mentions that Tea Tree Concealer needs to be more popular. Therefore, the marketing objective is to enhance the promotion of Tea Tree Concealer that can increase 5-10% sales in short term. It means that we will increase 5-10% sales of Tea Tree Concealer in 5 months. Long Term As for the long term objectives of The Body Shop, it mainly has two steps want to achieve. 1. Develop a new tea tree concealer for men From different researches in the market, we know that the make-up market for men is now expanding; more men are more focus on their appearance for different perspectives. Therefore, The Body Shop should invent a new tea tree concealer for men only, which can focus on the needs of men, such as promotes healing of acne, keeps your skin elastic and improves appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. As a result, the company would like our research and development department can invent a men concealer within nine months’ time. 2. Sale 10000 concealer within six months The company aims at maximizing the profit of the company. If The Body Shop promotes the new product, â€Å"Men’s Tea Tree Concealer†, its focus on the needs of men, so The Body Shop can increase its profit as it promotes a new men product. The company will have a questionnaire in the future so that we can know more about our market, for example, setting our target group, the price that people can accept, which promotion strategies is the best for our market. As a result, we would like to sell 10,000 pieces of concealer within six months’ time, which is a measurable objective. ————————————————- Marketing Strategies Short term To mention the short term objective of the Body Shop, we mainly want to attract some new customers by the new products. On the other hand, we also need to make the original customers continues to consume on our brand. And thus, we have discussed four mainly short term strategy to achieve our aim. 1. Advertisement The Body Shop can have three major ways to show our advertisement. The first one is Facebook. Nowadays, Facebook is a popular website to let people share their feelings and photos. And Facebook in Hong Kong is also necessary to people. Thus, do promotion on Facebook is an effective way to make more people know our new products. The second one is magazines. Magazines major target is office workers and the teenagers, and this target group is same as our products. Therefore, promotion on the magazines one big page can easy to let our targets know our new products. And the third one is promote next to the MTR escalator. MTR has many streams of people every day. And it is free when the people are standing on the escalator. So, display on the escalator advertisement board is also easy to let people know our promotion. 2. Discount For the general customers, The Body Shop can give them 5-10% off discount. And the VIP can get one more discount after the new product has got 5-10% discount. It will be effective that the cheaper price can make the people try it and also it can conveniently to attract more people being The Body Shop VIP. 3. Sample The Body Shop can give out the sample more effectiveness. If we just commonly give out the sample on the street will wreck the value of product. And thus, we have planned to ask people like and share the post on Facebook, after that show it to the staff, then they can get one sample. This method can let people try our new product and also indirectly help our brand having a promotion simultaneously. 4. Sponsorship We try to have corporation with Mannings and Watsons. If people consume above $150, they can get a sample of Body Shop. Sponsorship can provides a great means of broadening our competitive edge by improving our company’s image prestige and credibility by supporting events that your target market finds attractive. Long term For the long term plan for the Body Shop, the company purposes one and half year plan, which help the Body Shop to achieve the goals on developing a new tea tree concealer for men and increase the sale for product. The company will divide the plan into 4Ps. Product: As we all know, the make-up market for men is now expending so the Body Shop should grab this golden opportunity to develop a new tea tree concealer for men only. The skin is different between men and women, the company should focus on the needs of the men’s skin purpose. The company target group is based on beneficial segmentation because our product is only for men who have acnes on their faces. Although we all know that the cost for Research & Development is very high, the company think that people will also come and buy our product. Recently the company has done a survey on the Body Shop and its products. The interviewees thought the Body Shop is popularization, people are able to afford the price range. Therefore, we think put in money on R & D, later on, the Body Shop not only can earn the profit, also earn the advertisement benefit as they not only care about women but also men. Price: Market-Penetration pricing is the company choice on setting price. The tea tree collection of the Body Shop is famous in Hong Kong but the tea tree concealer is not familiar with the men. Therefore, we decide that when the product first enters to the market, the company will set a relatively low price so that it can attract more customers and get feedback from the public. People will consider buying our product because of low price, after they have used, they can re-buy the company’s product. Moreover, in market there is just a little amount of concealer that is only men, our product must keep a competition with other products because if the price set very low from the average, other competitors will also set a very low price, this cannot help the company to maximize the profit, it will greater the loss. If we set a high price, people are not willing to buy the company product as there are other concealers available in the market. The company set a price on $159 per new tree concealer for men which is a reasonable price. Place: In order to let more people to know more about the new tea tree concealer for men, the company will set up a special counter in shops, which is the company promotional product. Some salesperson will promote the new product as men may feel shy to buy make-up product so set up a counter is every shop help the company to find some target. Promotion: First, the company will give out some sample if people click ‘like’ in Facebook fans page, with the advance of technology and the common of using smart phone, people are more easy to obtain different information online, so Facebook is an efficient channel to promote the new tea tree concealer. The  company will maximum given out 10000 sample tea tree concealer. Second, the company decides to have video promotional campaign, people who have tried to use our product can join this competition. The users have to make a video about the feedback from using new tea tree concealer; the top 10 participants who obtained highest ‘like’ on their video clips can win $1500 cash. In this way, we enjoy a promotional advantage as participants will share their video clip for one another so that more people will know about our product.
